About the Event

How can we build a more inclusive and equitable environment for everyone working in science?

As the fusion community continues to grow and evolve, creating a diverse and supportive scientific environment is essential to fostering collaboration, and excellence. This round table will bring together scientists, researchers, and experts to discuss gender equity in science and practical ways to promote greater inclusion within our research communities.

The discussion will explore the challenges that can affect gender equity throughout scientific careers, as well as concrete approaches that institutions, teams, and individuals can adopt to create a more inclusive environment.

The aim is to exchange ideas, experiences, and practical solutions that can contribute to positive change in fusion research and in science more broadly. The round table will be an interactive discussion. Members of the audience will be invited to contribute, share their experiences and ideas, and ask questions directly to the speakers.

Among the topics we will explore:

• What are the main barriers to gender equity in scientific careers?
• What can research institutions and scientific organizations do to support equality and inclusion?
• How can we create more inclusive laboratory, conference, and research environments?
• What practices can help reduce unconscious bias in recruitment, evaluation, promotion, and collaboration?

Programme

🍽️ Community Lunch (1 pm)

A lunch will be offered to all participants before the round table, providing an informal opportunity to meet other members of the fusion and scientific community and exchange ideas.

🎤 Round Table (1.30 pm)

The discussion will begin with short contributions from our invited speakers, followed by a moderated round-table conversation and an open session for questions and contributions from the audience.

Elodie Bernard, IRFM (CEA Cadarache)

Invited speakers:

• Yannick Marandet — Program Manager for the French PEPR SupraFusion project and head of the PIIM laboratory (Aix-Marseille university)
• Eunnam Bang — Principal researcher and officer responsible for supporting women scientists at KFE (Korean Institute of Fusion Energy)
• Ryan Wagner — Technical Lead for Fusion Energy at the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency)

Registration: participation in the round table and lunch is included in the conference registration, but registration is required (places are limited).
